Overview

Defines the effort required to create and define the Project Initiation Document (PID) and the Initiation Stage Plan. It covers not only producing the PID but also the Stage Plan immediately following the initiation stage.

The initiation stage should be planned as a short and inexpensive stage (2-3 weeks in a 6 month project, one morning in a week long project!).

• Consider Programme Management when planning the length and delivery dates if the project is part of a Programme.
• Keep the Project Board informed about the Initiation Stage Plan's progress so that the approval is just a formality - there should be no surprises.
